WebSeborrheic Keratoses. Seborrheic keratoses are raised, benign growths of keratinocytes in the upper layers of the skin (the epidermis). These keratinocytes are often pigmented, which gives the seborrheic keratosis its dark, mole-like appearance. They are sometimes mistaken for warts or melanoma and range in color from tan to dark brown or black.
